EGC Facility Management has been operating in Kolkata since 1997, and currently manages more than 3 million square feet across commercial and residential properties. A few things change operationally once you’re managing at that scale, and they’re worth knowing if you’re evaluating a vendor for a large property.
Standardization stops being optional
At a handful of properties, informal processes can work. Past a certain portfolio size, every site needs the same documented SOPs, the same training curriculum for housekeeping and security-adjacent staff, and the same escalation path — otherwise quality varies by which supervisor happens to be on shift.
Training becomes continuous, not a one-time induction
We run regular housekeeping equipment and outsourcing-staff training sessions — not a single onboarding session when someone joins. Equipment changes, protocols get revised, and staff turnover means the training pipeline has to run continuously.
Certification stops being a formality
Managing a handful of properties, a certification can be a box to check. Managing a large portfolio across sectors — banking, healthcare, retail — different clients audit for different things, which is part of why we hold six separate certifications rather than one general one.
What this means for a property owner
The practical upshot: a vendor who’s operated at this scale for decades has already hit the failure modes that smaller operators haven’t encountered yet. That’s less a sales pitch than a filter — it’s worth asking any facility management vendor how many properties and how much square footage they’ve actually run, not just what services they list.
